River Nexus is the mission to set up a global network of independent river monitoring stations. These stations provide real-time information on the state of rivers while empowering the surrounding communities.  

The lack of information about our water resources leads to the following core problems

Water Distribution

Humanity doesn’t know how much water there is in the rivers and even less about its content. This lack of information leads to wrong distribution and diplomatic difficulties. 

Global Floods

Globally, floods kill 5,039 people on average and affect 73.1 million in total every year (2008-2018) according to the Centre for Research on the Epidemiology of Disasters. 

Lack of Infrastructure

Due to the harsh environmental conditions in rivers and often a lack of electricity, connectivity and local acceptance, it’s an unsolved challenge to set up and maintain hydro-meteorological stations in rural areas.

With a network of independent river monitoring stations combined with the use of modern satellite applications, we have elaborated the solution
This solution is based on three pillars
Water Management

The River Nexus network will leverage the value of existing and future environmental satellites like ESAs Copernicus constellation. With the information collected on ground, satellite pictures can be calibrated to manage water resources more effectively.

Risk Mitigation

Measuring water levels is essential to prepare for floods. 80% of natural disasters are water related. Furthermoreby analyzing the composition of the water, potential contamination can be detected. With our integrated approach these key parameters of rivers can be measured.

Sustainable Infrastructure

Having grid independent access to energy enables business models for remote communities, but also makes cities more resilient in case of energy shortages. To provide local energy services and hydro meteorological information is a multiple win scenario for the local and global community.
